Memorial Day Weekend Open Thread

Enjoy the long weekend.

And when you get gas and are paying $4+ a gallon (a store near where I live hit $3.99 today), remember that oil men run our country, and one of their main goals is to create record profits for other oil men. Also the dollar has been devalued nearly 40% since Bush took office and that is a large part of the oil/gas price increase. (A weaker dollar is the stated policy of the Bush administration.)

Never forget who Bush and Cheney truly are, and when you look at the gas pump, think of them.

I Still Get Hate Mail

Here's the latest nugget from my inbox :

Can’t take the truth, huh? Glenn Beck needs to be running for president. His intelligence and common sense astounds me! YOU ARE A MORAN…..I MEAN THAT IN A “NICE” WAY.
Notice how she calls me a moron, yet she spells it wrong. Kinda ironic I guess. And Beck for President? Ha.. he wouldnt last 5 minutes in a real debate.

McCain Rejects Hagee, Parsley

Finally McCain did the right thing and denounced and rejected Pastor Hagee and Rod Parsley, two controversial religious figures who have said inflamatory things in the past.

I applaud McCain for doing the right thing, and will state without a doubt that McCain does not agree with the statements of Hagee and Parsley. It's obvious he is not an anti-Catholic or anti-Islam fanatic as they are, and he does not believe Hitler was sent by God to hunt the Jews.

While I disagree with McCain on almost everything and believe he would be a horrible and potentially dangerous President, at least he has, on this one issue, done the right thing.

Late Night Open Thread

IMHO the gas/oil situation is now a crisis. Why you ask? Because the gas station near my house had to break out the 4 on their sign, the regular is $3.83 and the premium is $4.03 a gallon. (Diesel is $4.73 for those curious.)

A few years ago, $4 a gallon gas was a nightmare scenario, and something that people talked about as if it would never happen. Now it is here, and no one really seems that panicked or upset about it. Am I the only one who is freaking out about gas prices? Does anyone realize what big trouble we are in? When will someone finally ring the alarm bell and wake everyone up?

Ted Kennedy Has Cancerous Brain Tumor

Very sad news :

"Preliminary results from a biopsy of the brain identified the cause of the seizure as a malignant glioma in the left parietal lobe," according to a hospital statement.

Malignant glioma is the most common primary brain tumor, accounting for more than half of the 18,000 primary malignant brain tumors diagnosed each year in the United States, according to the National Cancer Institute.
No matter whether you agree with Kennedy's politics or ideals, you would have to agree the Kennedy family transformed the nation, and Ted Kennedy has been a leader in the Senate for decades. While we must hope for a complete recovery, most experts say life expectancy with this type of tumor is 18-24 months. Very sad indeed.

Clinton Bribing Superdelegates?

This is really slimy :

One of Sen. Hillary Clinton's top financial supporters offered $1 million to the Young Democrats of America during a phone conversation in which he also pressed for the organization's two uncommitted superdelegates to endorse the New York Democrat, a high-ranking official with YDA told The Huffington Post.

Haim Saban, the billionaire entertainment magnate and longtime Clinton supporter, denied the allegation. But four independent sources said that just before the North Carolina and Indiana primaries, Saban called YDA President David Hardt and offered what was perceived as a lucrative proposal: $1 million would be made available for the group if Hardt and the organization's other uncommitted superdelegate backed Clinton.
Wow. Out and out bribery, and while I dont know if Hillary Clinton ordered this or even knows about it, something tells me she isn't against it. Is this how desperate the Clinton campaign is? Literally bribing superdelegates to support her? Her thirst for power truly knows no bounds.
